Back at Hack in The Box 2018 Amsterdam
Like previous years, The S-Unit will be attending the HITB Security Conference in Amsterdam and sponsoring the Capture the Flag Hacking competition on April 12th and 13th.
What is HITB?HITB is an organisation that hosts security conferences in Asia and Amsterdam. These conferences give security researchers a platform to present research on a wide variety of subjects. Interesting subjects from previous years include carhacking, zerodays, iOS jailbreaks, hacking Airplanes using mobile phones and remotely compromising parking management systems and more.
What is our relation to HITB and why do we sponsor? When Hack in the Box first came to Amsterdam in 2010, they were greatly helped by their local partner ITQ and local hackerspaces. The lead back then Barry van Kampen (then consultant at ITQ and head of hacker space Randomdata) and Sjoerd Versteeg (member of Randomdata and currently teamlead HITB NL) to join the Dutch Core Crew. When Dirk van Veen joined ITQ in 2011 (after meeting ITQ at HITB), it was not long until he joined HITB as a CTF organizer. A few years later Sjoerd also joined ITQ (2014) and ITQ's security unit became independent as The S-Unit in the beginning of 2015, the close relationship with HITB naturally followed. Ever since then, the number of The S-Unit employees with HITB relations has steadily grown and the relationship has continually strengthened.
But there is more to The S-Unit's relation than the obvious fun of organizing a security conference. The direct contact with international security researchers and the global security community means The S-Unit is in a unique position to keep up to date with the latest developments and find the right people for the right job. This is one of the reasons we can deliver the quality that our customers have come to expect of us but next to that we also develop new initiatives like Hack in The Class and new possibility's for the security community. So, do you want to see the latest developments in security, are you interested in the Dutch security community, or do you just want to see what our guys are up to?

IoT pwn2own at HITB
During this years Hack in the Box conference in Amsterdam, The S-Unit introduces IoT pwn2own! On Thursday and Friday we will give you the opportunity to pwn various IoT (Internet of Things) devices at our booth. With more and more IoT devices being deployed every day, at your home, work, on the streets and more, security becomes an important part of IoT devices.
To give you the chance to come up with an awesome hack and make the world a better place, we ask you to show your hacking skills and participate in pwn2own! Who doesn't want a fun challenge?! After you pwned a device send us an email with a write-up of the issue you found.
We will look at all submissions and check who is the biggest IoT pwner. Friday around 16:30 we will announce the biggest IoT pwners. The winners will become the new owners of the IoT devices they pwned and the largest pwn will own a special prize. The S-Unit will responsibly disclose all reported issues with the vendors of-course so we can create a safer IoT environment.
Come meet us and happy pwning at Hack in The Box this week!
