As an insurance provider, TAF Insurance works with large volumes of sensitive data on a daily basis, including administrative and medical information. Cyber resilience is therefore an integral part of its business operations. The challenge? Keeping security awareness alive across the entire organization while further deepening technical teams’ expertise in secure software development. “Cyber security at TAF is not a one-off topic, but something we continuously focus on.” — Joris Vlemmings, IT Manager
“Cyber security is binnen TAF geen eenmalig thema, maar iets waar we continu aandacht voor hebben.” ~Joris Vlemmings, Manager IT
TAF Verzekeringen is a Dutch life insurance company that collaborates with a large network of advisors. The organization develops and maintains its own software, which is used daily by various parties. In doing so, TAF processes sensitive customer data, including administrative and medical information. Reliability and security therefore form the foundation of its services.
Security awareness is a recurring annual theme at TAF and is part of its internal audit program. This year, TAF chose to engage an external specialist with the goal of delivering a training that would an impact and stay top of mind.
Our Security Awareness training focused on risks from day-to-day work. Participants recognized the situations discussed and found the topics highly relevant to their roles. Humor, interaction and a final quiz ensured strong engagement.
“The level of awareness was already high, but trainings like this really help keep digital security top of mind.” — Joris Vlemmings, IT Manager
For the IT team, the focus was on deeper technical knowledge. TAF develops its own software that is used by many different parties, making security a non-negotiable requirement.
Through our Capture the Flag training , TAF wanted developers and engineers to experience how vulnerabilities arise and how they can be prevented.
Participants worked in teams on realistic security challenges. A scoreboard and competitive elements kept them sharp. By discovering vulnerabilities themselves, participants gained deeper insight into topics such as the OWASP Top 10 and learned how to reduce risks early in the development phase.
“The collaboration aspect, in particular, is a great way to strengthen team building as well.” — Joris Vlemmings, IT Manager
During the preparation phase, we worked closely with TAF to tailor the trainings as effectively as possible. Especially for the Security Awareness training, with its broad and diverse audience, customization was essential. The commitment and involvement of our trainers made the difference.
“The trainers were clearly engaged and genuinely focused on teaching people something valuable.” — Joris Vlemmings, IT Manager
For TAF, this is not the end. The organization continues to invest in cyber security through annual awareness initiatives, additional testing, and ongoing attention to a secure digital working environment.
According to TAF, this approach is relevant for any organization that wants to remain resilient against cyber threats.
