How resilient is your organization against real-world attacks? Discover how attackers operate and strengthen your security strategy.
On Wednesday, May 27, we are hosting an event together with Fortra and distribution partner Infinigate. Nick Bruinsma (The S-Unit) will show how attackers use Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) to prepare their attacks. After that, Marc Smeets (Outflank, part of Fortra) will take you through what red teaming looks like today and the challenges teams face in practice.

The event takes place at Racesquare in Utrecht—the perfect setting to hit the (online) track, challenge each other, and keep the conversation going. Expect a relaxed atmosphere, a bit of friendly competition, and plenty of opportunities to connect.
Nick Bruinsma demonstrates how attackers can gather a surprising amount of information from open sources, often without organizations even realizing it.
Using real-world examples, he shows how OSINT is leveraged for phishing and social engineering, and how it forms the foundation for many red team operations.
He will also explain what you can do to reduce your digital footprint and better protect your organization.
Marc Smeets provides a clear view of what red teaming looks like today. As organizations continue to strengthen their defenses, executing realistic attack simulations has become more challenging than ever.
Advanced EDR solutions, AI-driven detection, and even small operational mistakes add significant complexity to the work.
Drawing on his extensive experience as a red teamer, consultant, and trainer, Marc explains how modern tooling enables teams to test safely, in a controlled manner, and effectively—whether they are just starting out or already operate as mature security teams.
Nick Bruinsma is a Red Team Lead, senior pentester, and trainer at The S-Unit. He designs and executes realistic attack scenarios for mission-critical organizations on a daily basis, combining deep technical expertise with creativity.
With a background in software development and a master’s degree in IT Law, Nick looks beyond tools and techniques. His expertise includes Active Directory, lateral movement, C2 infrastructure, persistence, and exploit development.
He has led red team operations in the international retail and healthcare sectors and holds advanced certifications such as OSCP and OSCE3 (OSED, OSEP, OSWE). In addition, he develops tooling to deploy C2 payloads in a controlled and reproducible way, helping organizations measurably improve their detection capabilities and overall resilience.
Marc Smeets is a senior IT security specialist, red teamer, consultant, and trainer. Since the early days of infosec, starting as a hobby in 1998 and professionally from 2006, he has witnessed many developments within the industry. As one of the founders of Outflank in 2016, he was a pioneer in the increasingly professionalized red teaming landscape.
Over the past decade, he has helped organizations through realistic red team engagements, trained blue teams to strengthen their defenses, and, in his current role, enables other red teams to operate more effectively by leveraging Outflank’s security tooling.
