How Binqy Uses Annual Penetration Testing to Build Trust

As a fast-growing startup in wellbeing data, Binqy works every day to earn and maintain trust. Because they handle sensitive and special categories of personal data, security is a top priority. But how can a young organization clearly demonstrate that its security is truly under control? For Binqy, an independent penetration test turned out to be the key.

Who is Binqy

Binqy is an innovative AR platform that helps organizations proactively monitor and improve wellbeing. The platform brings the entire process together: from employee surveys to analysis, insights, and direct follow-up with psychologists and coaches.

Rapid growth requires demonstrable security

What started as an idea four years ago quickly grew into a fast-growing organization with nine employees and investors on board. But with growth comes responsibility.

Binqy works with wellbeing data, including special categories of personal data. A data breach would have a major impact on employees, clients, and their reputation. Although Thomas Nieuwenhuis, Co-Founder & CTO, was confident in the platform’s security, independent proof was lacking.

The immediate trigger to take action came from a major client: a housing corporation with strict requirements for privacy and data security. For them, a thorough penetration test was a prerequisite for collaboration.

Collaboration with The S-Unit

Binqy came into contact with The S-Unit through an existing customer. Although there were cheaper providers, the combination of proven expertise, quality, and speed ultimately made the difference. In addition, Binqy wanted to go live quickly and have a clear and practical security report available.

Within two weeks, we conducted the penetration test and delivered the report. The quick turnaround and clear communication enabled Binqy to immediately act on the findings.

The biggest gain? We can now demonstrate with a single document that our security is in order.

That builds trust with our clients and within our own organization as well.

Penetration Test Report Strengthens Sales and Supports ISO 27001 Certification

The biggest gain? Binqy actively uses the penetration test report when engaging with prospects, strengthening their position in sales conversations. They no longer rely solely on their own assessment but can now substantiate their security with independent proof.

In addition, the penetration test internally confirmed that the foundation is solid: no major vulnerabilities were identified. This increases confidence in the platform and supports the next step toward certifications, such as ISO 27001.

Penetration Testing as a Structural Part of the Growth Strategy

Binqy does not view security as a one-time checkbox exercise, but as an ongoing process. That is why they conduct a penetration test at least annually and even more frequently when major new features are introduced, especially during phases of rapid growth. As a result, penetration testing is therefore a permanent and integral part of their security strategy.

Binqy advises other service providers not to wait until it becomes absolutely necessary, but to have their security assessed independently and in a timely manner, especially when handling sensitive data.
