HackShield: Safe and fun online navigation

Children are exploring the digital world at an increasingly young age. In this era, where technology plays a significant role, it is essential for children to be aware of the risks and how to handle them. Think of scams, fraud, and stolen passwords. For cybercriminals, age makes no difference, but it is the lack of awareness in this young generation that makes them particularly vulnerable.

Just as we learn to stop at a red light and go at a green light, we need to teach children how to behave online. What is allowed and what is not?

At The S-Unit, we strive to make the world a safer place. We help organizations enhance their digital resilience, but we also believe it is important for children to be aware of digital dangers and know how to deal with them. That’s why we have developed an educational program for primary school students (grades 5 through 8). In these lessons, we teach children essential knowledge about cybersecurity and digital safety in an interactive and engaging way.

An essential part of these lessons is HackShield, an innovative and playful approach to cybersecurity training. HackShield is a virtual world where children take on the role of ‘Cyber Agents’ and face challenges to keep the digital world safe. Here, they can gain practical experience in a secure environment and learn about creating strong passwords, recognizing phishing attempts, and protecting personal information. The lessons align with children’s perspectives and make complex concepts easy to understand.

By raising awareness of cybersecurity at an early age, we establish a strong foundation for safe online behavior. As children gain access to technology at increasingly younger ages, it is crucial to equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves. By making them aware of online risks and teaching them how to navigate safely, we play a vital role in strengthening digital safety, not just for organizations, but for society as a whole in the future.
